Marine Construction in Sharptown, MD
Straight down the Nanticoke from our shop — the same river, the same current, the same boat traffic, just over the state line. Deep water, strong tide and banks that take it head on.
The water around Sharptown
Tidal river water: the Nanticoke River — about 10 miles southwest of the shop.
Sharptown is straight down the Nanticoke from our shop — the same river, the same current, the same traffic, just over the state line. Deep water, strong tide and banks that take it head on, with none of the shelter a creek would give.
Access. The closest Maryland town to the yard, and one we are on constantly. We cover ZIP code 21861 and the surrounding Wicomico County shoreline.
What that usually argues for. The fix has to be keyed in below the scour line, which is why toe protection matters more than freeboard here. Rip-rap, engineered bulkhead with proper embedment, or a graded living shoreline where there is room for one.
Questions we get about Sharptown water
Is the Nanticoke different on the Maryland side?
The river does not change at the line — but the permitting agency does, from DNREC to MDE. We are licensed for both.
How strong is the current at Sharptown?
Strong enough that toe scour is the main design consideration on almost every job.
Permits in Maryland
Shoreline work in Maryland is regulated, and almost anything built in or over the water needs approval from the Maryland Department of the Environment, often alongside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. We handle that in house — preparing the plans, completing the applications and coordinating with the agencies.
Budget three to twelve months for agency review depending on the complexity of the project. It is the part of the schedule most people underestimate, so it is worth starting the conversation well before the season you want to be using the water.
