Marine Construction in Seaford, DE

Our own town, and the river the company was built on. Bart Hastings worked alone along the Nanticoke here in 1980, and the shop is still on Old Furnace Road. If your property is on this river we have almost certainly worked within sight of it.

The water around Seaford

Tidal river water: the Nanticoke River, Herring Run and Williams Pond — our own town.

The Nanticoke at Seaford is deep, commercially navigable and carries barge traffic as well as pleasure boats, which is why so much of the frontage in town is hard edge rather than sloped. Above the highway bridge the river narrows and the banks are wooded and steep; below it the water opens out and the wind gets a run at you.

Access. Everything is a short haul from the yard, which means small repairs are worth doing here that would not justify a mobilization forty miles away. We cover ZIP code 19973 and the surrounding Sussex County shoreline.

What that usually argues for. The fix has to be keyed in below the scour line, which is why toe protection matters more than freeboard here. Rip-rap, engineered bulkhead with proper embedment, or a graded living shoreline where there is room for one.

Questions we get about Seaford water

Do you work on Williams Pond and the millponds around Seaford?

Yes. Pond frontage is a different job from river frontage — no tide, no salt, and a managed level — but the erosion is real and the stone goes in the same way.

How far up the Nanticoke do you work?

Past Seaford and up into the branches, and downriver through Sharptown and Vienna to where it opens toward Tangier Sound.

Permits in Delaware

Shoreline work in Delaware is regulated, and almost anything built in or over the water needs approval from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. We handle that in house — preparing the plans, completing the applications and coordinating with the agencies.

Budget three to twelve months for agency review depending on the complexity of the project. It is the part of the schedule most people underestimate, so it is worth starting the conversation well before the season you want to be using the water.
