Commercial Marine Construction

For marinas, developers, private enterprises, general contractors, engineers, facility managers and commercial waterfront owners.

Commercial marine work is won or lost on execution: plans and specifications built as drawn, a schedule that holds, mobilization that suits the site, and documentation the owner, engineer and general contractor can rely on.

Built to the contract

We work under contract or purchase order, to the plans and specifications. Questions about the drawings get raised before the work starts, not discovered halfway through it.

Schedule, mobilization and marine access

Waterfront schedules live and die on access. We plan mobilization and marine access up front — what comes by water, what comes by land, where it stages — and work around tide, weather and the rest of the job.

Our fleet of barges, pile-driving equipment, work vessels and heavy equipment — and the marine logistics to put them to work from the water or from land.

Coordination and documentation

One point of contact, coordination with the general contractor, engineer and owner, and the project documentation the job requires, kept as the work proceeds.

Insurance, bonding and safety

Hastings Marine Construction carries Marine General Liability, Protection & Indemnity, Hull and Workers’ Compensation coverage, is bonded with project-specific bonding capacity, and trains to OSHA 30.

Capabilities

Commercial work, in its own right.

These are commercial services with commercial specifications — not residential pages with a bigger number on them.

Foundations

Commercial pile driving

Timber piling for piers, platforms, walls, lift structures and marine foundations, including Class B piling for commercial and municipal work — driven with equipment suited to the site, from barges and work vessels or from land.

Typical piling
Class B for commercial and municipal walls; sizes per project specifications
Hard edge

Bulkheads & revetments

Commercial-scale bulkheads and retaining walls in timber or vinyl sheeting, with heavier piling, whalers and anchoring than residential work, and stone revetments where the shoreline allows a slope.

Typical
Class B piling; tie rods up to 1-inch where specified; 8×8 whalers with 3×8 lock whaler for heavier work
Shoreline

Shoreline armoring

Rip-rap revetments and offshore sills for commercial shorelines under sustained wave energy, wake and current, placed over proper filtration and bedding.

Typical
DelDOT-rated stone up to R-7 for heavier exposure; M300 filter fabric; DelDOT Select Fill and #57 Stone

All sizes, anchoring details and materials are subject to project specifications.

Pricing

Planning benchmarks.

Commercial projects are priced to the plans and specifications. For early budgeting:

Where pricing starts

Heavy residential / commercial bulkheadsStarting around $800 per running foot
Larger commercial and municipal systemsCan be several thousand dollars per foot

Planning benchmarks, not quotations. Running-foot figures assume roughly 100 linear feet of work; shorter jobs can cost materially more per foot because mobilization and other fixed costs are spread over less work. Your price depends on dimensions, height and grade, piling, materials, soil and water conditions, access, permitting, specifications, equipment and mobilization, and scope.
