Marine Construction in Milton, DE

The Broadkill is tidal through Milton and the town sits right at the head of it, below Wagamons Pond. Narrow river, real current, and banks that undercut rather than wash — which is a different failure and needs a different fix.

The water around Milton

Tidal river water: the Broadkill River, Wagamons Pond and Beaverdam Creek — about 26 miles east of the shop.

The Broadkill is narrow and genuinely tidal through Milton, and a narrow tidal river does its damage by undercutting — the bank looks fine until a section of it lets go in one piece. Wagamons Pond sits immediately above the town and is a different job entirely.

Access. Reasonable land access along most of the river; the pond is straightforward. We cover ZIP code 19968 and the surrounding Sussex County shoreline.

What that usually argues for. The fix has to be keyed in below the scour line, which is why toe protection matters more than freeboard here. Rip-rap, engineered bulkhead with proper embedment, or a graded living shoreline where there is room for one.

Questions we get about Milton water

My bank looked fine and then a whole section collapsed. What happened?

Undercutting. The river had been taking material from below the waterline for years, and the top finally lost its support. It is the signature failure on this river.

Does the fix need to go below the water line?

Almost always. Anything keyed in above the scour line on the Broadkill is decoration.

Permits in Delaware

Shoreline work in Delaware is regulated, and almost anything built in or over the water needs approval from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. We handle that in house — preparing the plans, completing the applications and coordinating with the agencies.

Budget three to twelve months for agency review depending on the complexity of the project. It is the part of the schedule most people underestimate, so it is worth starting the conversation well before the season you want to be using the water.
