In 1996, Bart was approached by DNREC to test a new method of shoreline stabilization on the Nanticoke River. As opposed to the hard-faced shorelines, such as bulkheads or rip-rap, DNREC was trying to judge the success of more natural and softer faced  shorelines. Bart’s enthusiasm for the project coupled with his extreme interest in biology prompted immense success of the project and helped set the standard for shoreline stabilization in Delaware. Since then, Hastings Marine Construction has become an innovator in shoreline stabilization using natural elements and proprietary methods. .
